This year, Kindergarten is starting a Kindergarten Math Museum. The purpose of the activities included in the Math Museum is to allow students to create by using their mathematical knowledge and connecting it to the real world. In the same way, it offers a wonderful home-school connection. Periodically, a new activity for the Math Museum will be shared.
This will be an activity students can complete during learning labs, or an activity you can do at home together. We offer the option for completing these activities at home not only so that you can be an integral part of your child’s education, but also for the freedom of material use (at school, we will not be getting out finger paint or other fun art materials that may enhance these experiences.) The activity is not homework, but rather an optional enrichment activity.
Once completed, students may bring their creation to school to share with their classmates. Students may be asked to share during Oratory School by explaining their artwork and pointing out how they used their mathematical knowledge. The pieces will be stored in our Math Museum Binder for easy sharing amongst the classes. Hopefully, this endeavor will help communicate our commitment to mathematics as students build their spatial reasoning and number sense through fun, imaginative creations!
