I graduated from St. Cloud State University in May of 2003 with a Bachelors of Science Degree in Elementary Education. I have an emphasis in Social Studies and a Minor in Special Education. After my student teaching in North Minneapolis, I decided to move out West to start my teaching career in Las Vegas, Nevada at Martin Luther King Elementary. I taught the 5th grade and 2nd grade for three years. Then, I moved further north to Carson City, Nevada and taught 3rd grade for five years and ESL for one year at Fremont Elementary. In 2007, I went back to college to earn my TESOL endorsement to teach ESL at the University of Nevada Reno. In May 2012, I was humbled and honored to receive the Light of Educators Award from the OCEA Association. In 2012, I decided to move to Minnesota to be closer to my family with my daughter Mia. The past six years I was teaching Kindergarten at Nova Classical Academy. This year I am so excited to be apart of the Obama Staff teaching 1st Grade to all of my fabulous scholars. I look forward to engaging these young minds in the lifelong love of learning. In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my family, going to spin class, sewing, taking pictures, reading, drinking coffee, cooking and baking. Some of the things my daughter and I enjoy doing together are reading, riding bikes, getting our nails done, playing games, and laughing.
My mission is to work with families to make the first years of formal school an amazing experience. Many seeds are planted in that first year of school. Thus, it is my goal to plant the seeds of good work ethic, self-confidence in personal abilities, virtuous behavior, and, above all, a love of learning. I look to provide a nurturing environment that challenges and supports students as they experience learning. As children develop in the elementary years, a primary goal is to build their literacy skills as much as possible. In the same way, I look to create a solid foundation of number sense in mathematics and aid children in discovering the amazing wonders of our world through exploring different habitats and cultures around the world.
